All Clear: After 22-hour long operation, building in Panpatty out of fire
The Ground plus two level RCC building in Panpatty where a fire broke at around 7:00 pm last night is now all clear. However, there is still smoke coming out of the of building and the personnel from SDRF and Fire and Emergency Services are still on the spot.
First the first floor was declared all clear and then the second floor. The personnel from both the departments walked into the smoke-filled building, sprayed foam and after inspection reported to their seniors that it is all clear. The last inspection was conducted on the ground floor of the building.
The personnel climbed up adjacent buildings and entered through windows. It is worth mentioning here that the windows were shielded and the officials broke them to enter and extinguish the fire with foam.
Though the firemen informed it is all clear, the same has not been communicated officially. The magistrate on the ground said they cannot comment on the matter and the deputy commissioner of Cachar will when the time is right.
Meanwhile, Cachar SP Bhanwar Lal Meena inspected the spot and took stock of the situation. Speaking with Barak Bulletin, Meena said it is just a matter of time before “All clear” is officially declared.
“SDRF and F&ES personnel are on the ground. The situation is under control,” said Meena. Both SP and DC were present on the spot for the most part of the whole night yesterday.
Even if the fire is under control, the building remains dangerous. There are cracks all across the three story warehouse and there are chances of it collapsing. One of the experts on the spot said, the concerned department will survey the building and then decide what must be done with it.
Vishal Footwear, the store where the fire was first spotted, has been demolished. The passage has been levelled with bulldozers and excavators for the fire engines to drive through.
Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli while speaking with Barak Bulletin informed that there were no casualties. In terms of loss of property, the owner said that the RCC warehouse is valued at around Rs 10 lakh and he is yet to make an estimate of the goods that were stocked in the warehouse.
