Allow tippers from 11 to 8; Association to meet DC, threatens protest

The administration must be burning its midnight oil figuring out a right time for tipper trucks or dump trucks to enter the town.

Following the death of journalist Malin Sarma, who was allegedly ran over by a tipper truck, the administration came under immense pressure. People from different sphere of society demanded various timings. The administration announced that the trucks can only enter the town after 1 AM. Reports suggested that the traffic advisory committee which included intellectuals and representatives of district administration wanted trucks to be allowed after 12 midnight.

Today, the Tipper Owners Association held a meeting at Udharbond, four mile. After the meeting, president of the association Jewel Ahmed said that they are going to submit a memorandum to the deputy commissioner of Cachar, Laya Madduri. He said the association will demand tipper trucks to be allowed in the town after 11 PM as it was earlier. He also said that the association wants administration to ensure that all the shops are shut by 10:00 PM so that when the tippers start plying inside the town it is less crowded. Their demand also include immediate opening of the Ram Nagar bypass.

“We want the driver who was driving the tipper which ran over journalist Malin Sarma to be caught as soon as possible. We also want our demands to be fulfilled. We will submit the memorandum to the madam DC and will give the administration 24 hours to meet the expectations of our association. If it is not done we will sit on a strike,” said Jewel Ahmed.

Will the administration consider these demands… it remains to be seen.
