Amalendu Das arrested for collecting "passing tax" from Mafias; "I am being framed by Minister's men," says former Hindu Jagaran Mancha Pracharak

As a part of the “All Out” drive against ‘Burmese Supari’ and ‘Fertiliser Syndicate’, Cachar Police has arrested Hindu Jagaran Mancha activist, Amalendu Das. As per available information, Das was detained by the Dholai Police Station last night. The Police officials continued the interrogation throughout the night and after attaining substantial evidence, he was arrested this morning. 

While Das was escorted to the Hospital for the mandatory Health Check-Up, he stopped by the media contingent and made explosive statements. Amalendu Das, who is a renowned right-wing activist and was once a ‘Prantiya Pracharak’ of the Hindu Jagaran Mancha said that he is being framed.

 

The Police has arrested him on charges of collecting “Passing Tax”. Police sources informed that Das used to collect a huge amount of money from vehicles transporting Burmese betelnuts and subsidised fertilisers to and from Mizoram. Sources informed that Das and gang used to charge upto Rs 40,000 per truck carrying fertilisers. If the demand was not met, Das would call former Dholai OC Sahab Uddin and get the drivers arrested.

He rubbishes the allegations pressed against him, “I do not collect any Passing Tax. I just perform the duties of an aware citizen and inform Police about illegal transportations of Timber, Fertilisers and Burmese Betelnuts. I am being framed by Minister’s men. Bhusan Paul and Sashanka Paul operate the Timber syndicate, they are minister Parimal Suklabaidya’s men. As I have helped the Police to nab trucks loaded by them, they are doing this as an act of vengeance against me. Jai Shree Ram, I am not involved in any of these activities,” said Amalendu Das while on his way to the Hospital. As per available information, he has been sent to Police remand.

Apart from Das, the Police arrested renowned contractor Dipankar Deb’s son, Debapriya Deb. The officials have identified Dipankar Deb and his older son Debu Deb as “Most Wanted Criminals” involved in the Supari Syndicate. From Bilpar Padmanagar area, Cachar Police arrested Kartik Paul a renowned businessman of Silchar. He too has been arrested for his involvement in the Supari Syndicate. Police officials visited the residences of Altaf Hussain and Zakir Talukdar to stick notices on the walls and gates. The notices state that the Police are in search of both of them.

Meanwhile, in Lailapur, the superintendent Police, Cachar, Dr. Ramandeep Kaur herself led a team to raid a warehouse stocked up with Burmese Supari. The officials are still counting the consignment however, the warehouse has been sealed.
