Amidst protests and black flags Pijush Hazarika lays foundation stone of Amusement park at Gandhi Bagh

Despite the strong protest from sections of society, Minister of State for Urban Development and Health & Family welfare, Pijush Hazarika today laid the foundation stone for proposed Amusement Park at Silchar Gandhibagh.

The park will be constructed by Silchar Municipal Board in collaboration with Assam progressive Developers Limited in PPP model within a time frame of 36 months. The park will consists of water rides, food court, a multipurpose hall, car parking area and many other entertainment things.

Minister Pijush Hazarika while speaking to the media persons after laying the foundation stone for the park said that if municipality does anything after taking their board resolution then the government can’t interfere on it. “Under the Municipality Act, a Municipal Board entertains some independency. If the decision is taken with proper board resolution than we can’t interfare on it.” minister said to the mediamen there.

Replying on the allegation of congress party that no board resolution was taken for the park, minister said that he has been informed that the resolution was taken and if not he will enquire.

Speaking during the function, Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy said that the 200-year old Silchar city has not seen development in the pace it should have been. “The population of the town has grown from than 50 thousands to now 3.5 lakhs but what is missing is a scientific development of the town. When I was a child, I could easily spot the Silchar Railway station standing from the Devdoot point. But now everywhere lies a big building. Why not the same objection was raised than? Currently there are 64 trees in the Gandhi Bagh area out of which 19 have already died. For the remaining 45 trees we have spoken with the APDL and they have assured us the trees will not be cut rather it will be replated”. Silchar MP said.

He further said that 1000 saplings will be planted to maintain the greenery of the park and invited everyone for it.
