Amidst protests Pijush Hazarika to lay foundation stone of amusement park in Gandhi Bagh on Sept 5

Silchar Municipal Board in an official statement announced that in partnership with APDL it is going to build the first ever Amusement Park in Silchar. “The park would be a collection of Water Rides, Boating Deck, Multipurpose Hall and many more exciting features,” announced SMB in a statement.

It is worth mentioning here that former Silchar MP, Sushmita Dev had submitted a memorandum to stop this plan as that would hurt the lungs of the city. She and her peers had said that the greenery of Gandhi Bagh helps Silchar breathe fresh air and a park there would make the city resident suffer. Many other organisations also protested against the construction of park there.

SMB in its statement did take notice of the protests, “The park will be built without hampering the Green Ecosystem of Gandhi Bagh, i.e Not a Single Tree will be cut down,” read the official note.

SMB pointed it out that this park will create job opportunities, “It will give direct and indirect employment to approximately 200-250 Youths,” it mentioned in its note.

SMB’s note concluded, “The Hon’ble Minister of Urban Development, Govt. of Assam, Sri Pijush Hazarika will lay the Foundation Stone of the Amusement Park on 5th September. The Park is slated to be completed in 36 months time.”
