Another accident in Mahasadak, three dead; Moynagarh that saw a driver burnt alive in the past was tensed again
A disastrous accident in Moynagarh under the Borkhola Legislative Assembly constituency claims three lives. Moynagarh which is located by the Mahasadak has a dark history that many thought would repeat itself last evening.
Yesterday, a tipper truck loaded with stones was headed towards Silchar and as per the locals, it was driving on the wrong side of the road. At the same time, an auto-rickshaw and another tipper were headed in the opposite direction. The moment they noticed the tipper truck on the wrong side, they lost control. The auto-rickshaw met with a head-on collision with the tipper truck and in no time, the truck behind it crushed the passengers.
Sanjib Akhra (30) of Dudhpatil and Ritujyoti Acharya (35) of Bihara died on the spot. The auto driver was bleeding heavily when he was rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. He breathed his last on his way to the Medical College.
The dead bodies were lying on the road and when OC of Borkhola Police Station, Manmohan Raut went to the spot to recover the bodies, the locals got irked. They blocked the road and sat on demonstration. Their demand – the SP and DC of the district must visit the spot and they should take immediate action against stone-carrying tippers.
The additional SP and other senior officers of Cachar Police reached the spot wailing their sirens, but that too didn’t help. For about three hours, the dead bodies remained to lie on the road. In the past, after a similar accident, the locals of the Moynagarh area had locked the tipper driver inside the truck and set it on fire. The driver was burnt alive.
At 9:30 pm, the Superintendent of Cachar Police, Ramandeep Kaur rushed to the spot with a huge force and eventually, the blockade was withdrawn and the dead bodies were recovered.
