Another case of snatching in Silchar; Elderly couple lose a lakh; Rank and file in banks to be investigated, hints SP
It has not yet been 24-hours and there is another incident of snatching in the heart of Silchar town. In front of the State Bank of India, New Silchar Branch in Rangirkhari. The “Black Pulsar Gang” has found its new victim. The gang is running a freak show around the banks of the town and the show just goes on.
Today, a sum of rupees one lakh was snatched away from an elderly couple. The customers of State Bank of India’s New Silchar Branch, the couple tried to put some resistance but the snatchers forced them to the ground and escaped with the bag full of cash.
At around 12:30 in the afternoon, Jyoti Chakraborty and her husband Shyamal Chakraborty were about to board an auto for Silcoorie after withdrawing rupees one lakh from the bank. Two men in a black Pulsar bike approached them and tried to snatch their bag full of money away. When the elderly couple tried to resist and save their money, the men thrashed them forcefully and snatched the bag away. During the whole debacle, they got injured and also couldn’t save their hard-earned money.
Police were informed and as usual when they came to the spot, it was too late. Nor could they recover the money, neither did they have any information about these snatchers. Later, they filed an FIR at the Rangirkhari Police Outpost expecting their money to be recovered. But the bigger question here is why is there no security around the bank even after so many snatching incidents in and around the major banks of Silchar? Why is the Silchar Police silent?
Cachar SP, Ramandeep Kaur was asked about the snatcher gang operating in Silchar. The SP Cachar said that the Police is looking into the matter. Locals have been questioning the role of the banks and the involvement of the bankers for a long time. “We are investigating the matter and the rank and file of the banks will be brought under the scrutiny of law,” said SP Cachar.
