AOA's letter exposes political motive; Silchar DSA's membership canceled to enable entry of rebel group
Things unfolded just how it was anticipated. The whole picture became transparent on Saturday when the letter from Assam Olympic Association (AOA) reached Silchar DSA. The letter is self-evident of the fact that how the cancellation of Silchar DSA’s membership is unconstitutional ar best and illegal move by AOA at worse.
Three reasons have been stated in the letter that was sent to Silchar DSA via e-mail, but none of these reasons have any validity. It is already been explained how and why AOA’s decision of striping Silchar DSA’s membership was arbitrary and illegal.
The AOA letter has clarified one fact that the decision has been powered by five to six ruling party members. They have played an instrumental role.
In an interview given to Barak Bulletin earlier in November 2021, Lakshya Konwar had exactly mentioned all the three reasons that are being stated in the latest letter. Then the obvious question arises here, whether all these were preplanned? In that interview, Mr. Konwar even mentioned Cachar Sports Forum as the prospective alternative to Silchar DSA. So has the membership of Silchar DSA is being canceled illegally with a vested interest to make space for Cachar Sports Forum? In a press conference held in Silchar BJP office On January 5, MP Rajdeep Ray was asked whether Cachar Sports Forum will replace DSA, Dr. Roy didn’t give any straight answer, neither he denied the possibility.
The first reason that is stated in the latest letter is, that AOA has termed the governing committee as unconstitutional because the BGM through which the committee was formed was unconstitutional itself.
In the next point where AOA stated that, how Silchar DSA canceled the membership of twenty members through an Special General Meeting, was arbitrary and unconstitutional. And in the third point, AOA mentioned taking the cognizance of how Silchar DSA slandered AOA in media.
These three reasons have been given as justification for the cancellation of Silchar DSA’s membership.
Another point is mentioned in that latest letter, where it is informed that a three-member committee is being formed by AOA for the smooth functioning of the sporting activities in Silchar. The committee includes AOA vice-president Ritubaran Sharma, Karimganj DSA president Amalesh Chaudhury and Hailakandi DSA secretary Saibal Sengupta. Now, the question that needs to be asked here is on what basis the committee is being formed? So far, Silchar DSA was a member of AOA, but with the cancellation of membership, there is no official relation between AOA and DSA, so AOA doesn’t have the jurisdiction to take further decisions for DSA Silchar. Then why this special monitoring committee has been formed?
It is to be noticed here that the BGM that the AOA letter mentions was held by the then DSA Silchar secretary Subimal Dhar. According to this, the erstwhile secretary had violated the constitution. Lakshya Konwar had also mentioned this in the interview. Mr. Konwar had also informed that AOA directed Subimal Dhar to amend the constitution and hold a general meeting thereafter. It is striking that Subimal Dhar, who is responsible for the mess, continues to be a member of AOA. Now that AOA and DSA are having a faceoff, Subimal Dhar is nowhere on the scene.
When we reached out to Mr. Dhar, he said, “don’t drag and involve me in this; I am no more the secretary of Silchar DSA. I am not aware of anything about what has been exchanged between AOA and DSA in the last couple of years. I can’t make any statement here.”
“You aren’t aware even though you are a member of AOA?” In answer to this question, Mr. Dhar said, “I was supposed to go to the AOA meeting, but due to certain health issues of my family member, I couldn’t go.”
AOA Secretary has been alleging that the BGM called by Subimal Dhar was unconstitutional; then why AOA didn’t consult or give any show cause to its own member (Subimal Dhar)? And why is Mr. Dhar on the executive committee of AOA? Isn’t it a conflict of interest for holding two official posts at the same time?
Is not it imperative for Subimal Dhar, as representative of Silchar, to clarify all this to AOA? Because all the controversy started with him, how could he ignore his responsibility here? Mr. Dhar had called the BGM before its tenure expired, and even after so many fuses between AOA and DSA, why is he still a member of AOA? Or is he doing this willfully? Is he the pawn who sabotaged DSA from inside?
