APSC: Badarpur based Portuguese community's Herry Pauls Fernandez gets selected for the post of BDO

Did you know there is a Portuguese community living in Assam? A population of about 2500 individuals belonging to the Portuguese community resides in Badarpur in Barak Valley. The community has shrunk over the years as many migrated to other parts of the country. Herry Pauls Fernandez belonging to the Portuguese community resides in Badarpur Ghat area and has managed to crack various rounds of selection procedure to get selected for the post of BDO.
The Assam Public Service Commission published the merit list of applicants selected for the post of Block Development Officer, under P&RD department. “For these posts, the applicants are asked to sit for a written test followed by a viva. It is like a mini ACS,” informed a senior official in APSC.

The published list had 11 names in it and Herry Pauls Fernandez secured the sixth position. He is the only applicant from Barak Valley to get shortlisted for the post of BDO. “APSC results have been a big morale boost for the people of Barak Valley. We have got a topper from here, an applicant from the tea tribe made it to the merit list and now we have an applicant shortlisted for the post of BDO too. This will motivate many students to work hard for APSC examinations in the future,” says a professor.
