Army jawan nabs miscreant trying to loot ATM in Hailakandi
An aware Indian Army jawan has spoilt a miscreant’s new year plans with his presence of mind. At around 11:40 AM today a miscreant entered a State Bank of India ATM booth with a hammer and was trying to break open the kiosk. As a coincidence, jawan Ashit Kumar Nath also entered the booth to withdraw money at the same time. When Nath confronted the miscreant, he identified himself as a mechanic deployed by the bank to renovate the booth.
Nath did not buy the justification and kept his attention in the booth, meanwhile, a couple of other CRPF jawans entered the booth located in Lala Bazaar in Hailakandi and was unable to withdraw cash and the plug point was broken. That is when Nath and other CRPF jawans were sure that man inside is a miscreant and not a mechanic. They escorted him to the branch manager of Lala Bazaar branch who was shocked learning about the entire incident.
The miscreant is identified as Imadadullah Barbhuiya, a resident of Niyamatpur village in Lala area. Branch manager Sourajit Deb immediately checked the CCTV footage and informed Lala Police about the entire incident. Lala Police reached the bank and arrested Barbhuiya. Deb informed that the ATM kiosk has suffered major damages as it was banged with a hammer and the booth will remain out of order until renovated. The branch manager has informed higher authority about the incident.
Locals saw Barbhuiya entering the booth several times since morning and when asked he replied he had to withdraw money from his account. Sources in the bank informed us that Barbhuiya has an SBI account in the Lala Bazaar branch, however, there is no balance in his account.
Hailakandi based jawan, Ashit Kumar Nath is deployed in Kashmir and has come to his home for vacation. His presence of mind has prevented what could have easily been another ‘ATM loot’.
