Assam CM Praises Cachar Police for Massive ₹36 Crore YABA Drug Bust
In a high-stakes operation at Salchapra, Cachar Police intercepted two vehicles heading to a neighbouring state and uncovered 1,20,000 YABA tablets worth ₹36 crore hidden in potato sacks. The operation, part of Assam’s war against drugs also led to the arrest of 20-year-old Mohammad Azad Laskar. Lauding the effort, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma called it a significant victory in the fight against drug trafficking.
In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, Cachar Police successfully intercepted two vehicles and seized 1,20,000 YABA tablets worth ₹36 crore during an operation in Salchapra. The operation was carried out following credible intelligence as part of Assam’s ongoing mission to eradicate drugs.
Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta praised the efforts, stating, “Our mission against drugs is continuing, and this proves it. Our Chief Minister aims to free the state from drugs, and we are doing everything we can to make this a reality. Acting on intelligence, we conducted the operation and achieved success.”
The seized vehicles, two TATA Intras with registration numbers AS11EC2504 and AS11EC4291, were found carrying the drugs concealed inside potato sacks. The vehicles were en route to a neighbouring state when intercepted.
The operation also led to the arrest of 20-year-old Mohammad Azad Laskar. Further investigation into the case is underway.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the operation on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Acting on credible intelligence, Cachar Police conducted a special operation in Silchar today, intercepting two vehicles and apprehending an individual. The search led to the recovery of 12 packets containing 1,20,000 YABA tablets, valued at ₹36 crore. Kudos to Assam Police for their relentless dedication to the #AssamAgainstDrugs campaign!”
