Assam government extends Dr. Rakesh Gopal's periodic-visit contract by six months; Progress on Cath Lab too
Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Assam has issued an order notifying the extension of the arrangement with the eminent cardiologist, Dr. Rakesh Gopal.
The order stated that the extension of the arrangement with Dr. Rakesh Gopal is for six months. He will render his service at Silchar Medical College and Hospital once every month. As per the arrangement, Dr. Rakesh Gopal will not charge any consultation fee, but the SMCH authority will reimburse the travel and lodging cost.
This extension, Principal of SMCH, Dr. Babul Bezbaruah feels, “Is great news for Silchar and future upgradation of the department.” He adds, “After Bihu, doctor Rakesh Gopal will visit Silchar and check patients and his monthly visit will continue for the next six months.”
Today the e-tender invited for the construction of Cath Lab in Silchar Medical College and Hospital will also get opened. “We are hopeful that by January 20, we will have a decisive development with regards to the Cath Lab,” said Bezbaruah.
Dr. Bhakar Gupta, vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital added that a couple of parties even visited SMCH to survey the building.
For the freshers, a group of youngsters – ‘Thousand Sayantan’ got in touch with Dr. Rakesh Gopal through Padma Shri Dr. Ravi Kannan and convinced Dr. Rakesh Gopal to check patients here in Silchar.
He is now a Senior Consultant, Interventional Cardiologist Apollo Hospitals, Chennai also the Director Cardiac Catheterization Services and Interventional Cardiology at Hindu Mission Hospital. He is the Lead Cardiologist at, Center for OncoCardiology Apollo Speciality Hospital Teynampet, Chennai and was the former Cardiologist to Governor Tamil Nadu State, India.
