The honourable Governor of Assam Jagdish Mukhi is out on a three-day Barak Valley tour. He will be covering the three major districts and inspecting the facilities available for the people in each area.

The official tour started today from Silchar in Cachar district where after having lunch at the circuit house, Mukhi headed straight to visit education institutions and hospitals to check cleanliness as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

On his first visit at Cachar College, the Governor spoke about vacancies and assured that he would take this up with government and fill the positions as soon as possible. And then he went to the Government Boys School, and as he stepped into the bathrooms, he was appalled. There were no water available and the toilets were dirty and stinky. He immediately flagged off the issue and spoke to the deputy commissioner who was representing the district administration to get the needful done. Mukhi expressed his disappointment towards the District Administration and ordered the Deputy Commissioner present there to get the hygiene issue sorted soon.

While the DC said he will get the matter sorted in three days, giving a practical example, Mukhi gave him time and said that the government will aide him in whatever way required. He also asked the DC too see that a separate toilet being made for girls at each and every institution.

The Governer further announced that every 7th of each month, an official from district administration should go to each school to inspect and report on the same. Post the school visit, Mukhi went to Satindra Mohan Dev Civil Hospital, and was left upset by the hygiene conditions there.

He also has had meetings with the Security agencies at the circuit house, followed by being briefed about the Central Government schemes being implemented in the districts. He also scheduled to meet the different delegations such as sports, religious, social and literary organisations and students association and parties later in the evening.

The Governor will be traveling to Karimganj tomorrow and then Hailakandi on April 21.
