Assam University Administration rusticates Milon Das; Students' Union planning a mass gathering today
- Cause threat to life of government servants/officers of the university on the late evening of 9th January 2020 in Administrative Building by attacking the officers with a group of intoxicated persons.
- Creating hindrance to office work by using force, verbal abuse, locking the administrative offices on several occasions and wrongfully confining officers and professors of the university including Executive Council members on 16th January 2020.
- Breaking lock of office collapsible gate towards engineering section by hammering on 30.8.2018
- Ransacking of Engineering section and causing damage to government university property on 5.3.2018.
- Insulting and humiliating the vice-chancellor of the university; trying to physically attack the Vice-Chancellor (30.07.2018) in his chamber and threaten him time and again (The latest being during EC meeting on 11.12.2019 and during wrongful confinement on night of 16.01.2020). Using abusive language against Vice-Chancellor and frequently banging into Vice-Chancellor’s chamber in groups without taking due permission.
- Throwing Vice-Chancellor’s chair from his office on 27.07.2018.
- Humiliating Lady officer (Doctor) of University on 8-3-2018.
The administration clarified that the decision to rusticate Milon Das for a period of two years was based on time to time reports from the security officer of Assam University Silchar and other officers of the institution and frequent harassment to the vice-chancellor in public glare.
The authority added that it is examining the reports further and if it needs to take additional measures to maintain discipline in the University.
On the other hand, the Students’ Union of Assam University Silchar is planning a mass get together to decide on the future course of action. A senior member in the Union said they believe the rustication of Milan Das is unfair, “He could have been warned! This rustication can ruin his career, life and bringing charges which are dated back to March 2018 clearly shows that the authority tried its best to build a case against its own student. Today we will meet and decide our course of action which will start unfolding from Monday onward,” that the Student Union member on condition of anonymity.
