Assam University elections: Abhinandan Mahanta elected as president, Debopratim Saha - GS; here is the list winners 

After burning the mid-night oil since last few days, the students of Assam University Silchar will sleep well tonight. Yesterday, the students of the institution elected the new union. It was a very interesting election where students who aspire to be future leaders in various streams contested for the different posts in the Student’s body.

As we are aware that election is always a tedious process for the authority and in Assam University impulse and actions are always a notch higher. The official campaigning started three days prior to the election. The respected candidate marched to all the departments along with their supporters with a manifesto to inform and convince fellow students about their agenda. Students with over 75% attendance and zero backlogs were only eligible to submit their candidature which was then approved by the head of their respective departments.

After exhibiting oratory and diplomatic skills came the election day. It was the ballot that would decide who wins and who does not. The whole University was crowded with a sea of students, banners and posters were put up everywhere, names of the candidates imprinted on the roads. The security was beefed up, there was extensive checking in the entrance. Every student had to produce a valid identity card to get an access to the campus. The security check-in was followed by casting of votes. Late evening, putting an end to all the speculations, permutations and combinations, the winners were announced. The results, like always came in as celebration for some while agony for others, however, everyone took it sportingly and there were no chaos.

Assistant General Secretary (female) – Maharsree Boro
Cultural Secretary – Kanteswar Borgohain
Sports Secretary  – Suraj Chanda
Magazine Secretary – Gourav Sarkar
