Assam University to host 19th convocation on May 5, 6, 7; Dr. Lakhan Das likely to be conferred with honorary doctorate
Assam University Silchar has issued a notice notifying the new dates of 19th convocation. Earlier, it was announced that the central varsity will conduct it’s convocation on April 6. The applications were kept open till February 20. The University authority was shocked to find that around ten thousand applicants had paid the fees to attend the convocation physically. The logistical nightmare that the central varsity’s top management couldn’t foresee had forced them to postpone the convocation. Normally the University receives three thousand applications approximately but since most of the examinations held in recent past were online, the pass percentage swelled up.
Now the university has announced that the convocation will be organised across a period of three days starting from May 5 and culminating on May 7.
Sources close to the development have informed that doctor Kumar Kanti Das popularly known as Lakhan Das will be conferred with a honorary doctorate by the Central University. The surgeon has returned from America and has been practicing in Barak Valley. His contribution to the field of healthcare has inspired many emerging doctors from the valley and across.
However, it is worth mentioning here that the university hasn’t formally announced the names of dignitaries who will attend the 19th convocation. The announcement of conferring Dr. Lakhan Das with an honorary doctorate is also awaited.
