Autumn session of the Assembly begins today, expected heated debate on NRC.

Autumn session of the Assam Legislative Assembly begins today. Today, a meeting of the Congress, AUDF and AGP group legislators was held in preparation for the session.

Several important bills will be presented in this session of the Assembly. There are seven bills from five departments to be presented today. Three bills from finance department will be presented in assembly. These are Electricity Duty Amendments Bill-2018, Assam Taxation Amendment Bill, GST Amendment Bill. Among other divisions, there are Cooperative Societies Amendments Bill, a Bill of Sports and Youth Welfare Division, Anirudh Deb Sports University Bill, Internal Water Transport Departmental Bill, Inland Water Regiment Bill, Workers’ Welfare Fund Amendment Bill.

Moreover, there is a possibility of debate in the Assembly on national citizenship. In May, Dilip Pal, MLA of Silchar, resigned from the post of Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly. The new Deputy Speaker will be elected in this session, the elections will be held on 26th September. Allocation of additional funds for the current year will also be allocated and passed in this session. The session will end on 5th October.
