
Barak Banga's Central Convention in Silchar from March 11
The Barak Upatyaka Banga Sahitya Sanskriti Sammelan (Barak Banga) is going to organize their 29th Binneal Central Convention from March 11 till March 13, 2022.
In a meeting chaired by President of the Cachar District Committee cum Convention Committee, Taimur Raja Choudhury, this decision was taken on Sunday. As COVID restrictions in the state are slowly relaxed in the state, the Committee has taken this decision without any further delay. Without any objections from the members of the committee, the dates March 11, 12 and 13 were finalised.
During the meeting, various sub-committees and members with other responsibilities for the convention were present. The Financial Sub-committee’s Chairman Nilabha Mazumder Mridul and Convention Committee’s Treasurer Biswanath Bhattacharjee have given special emphasis on collecting subscription fees and requested the members to collect the coupon book from Banga Bhawan and distribute it among the masses. Cupons worth rupees 20, 50 and 100 are published, said the committee.
The Convention Committee’s General Secretary, Dr Jayant Debroy during the meeting said, “A magnific inaugural program is being prepared by our members. We’re working on deciding our guest panel along with speakers for the three-day event. We have already started communicating with various resource persons for the convention and soon we shall also release a memoir before the event. Other than that, during the three days of the event, three bulletins will also be released”.
During the convention, various programmes and sessions are lined up, there will be panel discussion sessions, poetry reading and conference, short-story reading and child fair. Everyday there will be an open-stage, where performers can sing or dance, there will also be a folk-music session. Along with that, one book fair is also proposed to be organised among various other events. Entry will be free for all the events except for the delegates conference, informed Dr Debroy. It’s noteworthy here that the convention was earlier scheduled on February 11, 12 and 13, which got cancelled due to the imposed COVID norms by the state.
