Barak in heart, Brahmaputra in consciousness, "Our work has proven the love for Barak", says Sarbananda Sonowal

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took part in the meeting in Barak Valley for the first time after the official start of the election campaign. He also attended meetings at Patharkandi and Badarpur in the Karimganj district. Speaking in Bengali as well as Bhojpuri, Sarbananda Sonowal tried to win over the supporters. He said at the beginning, “Apnaara bhalo toh? Bhalo thakte hobe.”

“The Congress has been plotting deprivation in the Barak Valley for so long, but the BJP government has shown in five years the meaning of love, “he said. Then he added, “We have done more than we have said. The progress that has not been made in the Barak Valley for so many years was made during the tenure of our government. The common people love us, we have met their demands. Barak’s roads have been improved, broad gauge has arrived, there has been a mini-secretariat and much more are underway. I have come to you today to ask for votes in support of my candidates. I’m like your family’s own son, hope you’ll keep my word.” 

He kept picking on Congress whenever he could, referring to them as frauds. He said, “Priyanka Gandhi arrives in Barak’s tea garden and picks up two or three leaves and spends merely 30 seconds, and they are promoting that photo in different places. Does she even know how long it takes to fill a woman’s basket of a tea garden? This is an example of congress’ fraud. Everyone has benefited from the projects that have arrived in our time, people of a particular religion have been given more and the rest have been deprived, it has never happened in our tenure. To those who abuse our religious identity, I want to say to them that the BJP is the most secular party.”

Today Himanta Biswa Sarma has campaigned in different areas of the Barak Valley and tomorrow a huge rally is awaiting him in Silchar.
