
Barak Valley jawans killed in Himachal building collapse brought back
The dead bodies of four jawans of Barak Valley, who died in a building collapse at Solan in Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, were brought to Silchar on Tuesday.
At least 13 army jawans were killed and many civilians injured after the four-story building, which housed a restaurant, collapsed on the Nahan-Kumarhatti Road at Solan on Sunday evening following heavy rainfall.
The jawans from Barak Valley, who lost their lives in the incident, were Ajit Kumar Singha (Hailakandi, Assam), M Rajkishore Singha (Hailakandi, Assam), Sujit Sharma (Karimganj, Assam) and Kumar Chorei (Karimganj, Assam). Their last rites were performed on Tuesday.
A total of nine jawans, who were killed, were from the Northeast. The others were K Lalson Vaiphei (Churachandpur, Manipur), M Nobin Chandra Singh (Thoubal, Manipur), Prodip Chandra Bhuyan (Nagaon, Assam), Bisharsing Basumatary (Dhubri, Assam) and Henkhomang Gangte (Happy Valley, Shillong).
As per reports by a number of media outlets, local residents of Solan have blamed the authorities for the incident. A special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to probe the case.
