
Barak Valley, “stay alert and be prepared,” for thunderstorm coupled with gutsy wind

More weather extremes on the cards. The ‘kal baishakhi jhor’ season has arrived. Barak Valley and the entire Assam has already witnessed a few episodes of cyclonic storms. Today, India Meteorological Department of government of India’s ministry of earth sciences in it’s mid-day bulletin issued a “stay alert and be prepared” warning for people living in various parts of South Assam.
The report states, Thunderstorms accompanied with gutsy winds very likely at isolated places in Meghalaya and Assam on both April 21 and 22. In the weather map the department has coloured South Assam as orange which implies to, “Alert (be prepared)” according to their terminologies.
Recently one died in Barak Valley due to storm, and affected over 600 people. The storm brought down a gigantic tree, which fell over a house killing 35 year old Brishbala Das on April 14, 2018. The CEO of District Disaster Management Authority in his storm report confirmed that the Rangpur Part III resident died because of “falling of tree”. The storm had its affect in Machughat, Chuto Dudhpatil, Rongpur part III, Sonapur (Katigorah), Udharbond, Sonai, Katigorah, Lakhipur and its adjoining areas too.

On the same day, in Karimganj district’s Radhakrishna Nagar, lighting struck hard and killed one. The deceased was identified as Sudhir Baishnab. Sources, back then, informed us that locals rushed him to hospital immediately after the incident, where he was declared dead by the medical officer. We are informed that four others got critically injured because of the lightning and are now in serious condition battling for life in the hospital.
