Barbaric : Husband Cuts Off Wife’s Hands Over Infidelity Suspicion in Dholai
In a shocking act of cruelty, a husband severs both hands of his wife, suspecting her of infidelity. The critically injured woman has been sent to Guwahati Medical College. The brutal incident took place in the Jamalpur Forest Village of Dholai constituency. The husband who travels frequently for work suspected the wife of infidelity in his absence. The mother of three children was attacked with sharp weapons damaging multiple organs and leaving her blinded in one eye.
The incident happened on Thursday night in the Jamalpur Gram Panchayat area of the South Dholai region of the Dholai police station area. The victim, Ruby Begum, was married to Rafiquddin, a resident of the same village, about six years ago. Ruby’s paternal home is in Rajnagar village, under Rajnagar Gram Panchayat, in the same police station area. Shortly after their marriage, Rafiquddin began travelling frequently to Bangalore for work. Every time he returned, he suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair, leading to frequent quarrels between them. Despite these tensions, Ruby gave birth to three children over the past six years—the eldest is five years old, and the youngest is five months old.
Rafiquddin, primarily a day labourer, has spent most of the last two to three years in Bangalore due to his work. During this period, he suspected his wife of infidelity. Unable to bear her husband’s abuse, Ruby left her marital home and returned to her parents’ house. About six months ago, a settlement was reached through mediation, and Ruby returned to her husband’s house. According to Ruby’s maternal uncle, after taking Ruby back home, Rafiquddin left for Bangalore again. He returned about a month and a half ago, and once again, he quarrelled with Ruby, accusing her of infidelity. Since their marriage, he had been physically abusive towards her, and a few days ago, he even assaulted his mother-in-law, as reported by Ruby’s uncle.
On Thursday, another argument broke out between the couple over some issues. In a fit of rage, Rafiquddin attacked Ruby with a sharp weapon, injuring her in several places, and then cut off both her hands above the wrists before fleeing the scene. After Rafiquddin fled, neighbours heard the cries of the mother and her children and rushed to the house. They found Ruby lying in a pool of blood inside the house. By then, she had lost consciousness due to excessive bleeding. The neighbours informed Ruby’s family, who rushed to the scene and took her, in critical condition, to Silchar Medical College Hospital.
“I have never seen such barbaric acts in my life. Both her hands have been severed and he punched her in the eyes which will now be lost. The doctors have clearly stated, that to save her hands we have to rush her to Guwahati”, revealed the maternal uncle of the victim.
Seeing the severity of her condition, the doctors at the medical college advised them to take her to Guwahati Medical College. That very night, Ruby’s family set off for Guwahati. Meanwhile, the family has not yet filed an FIR, but the police, having been informed of the incident, have begun an investigation and launched a search for Rafiquddin.
