Bhabikal Theatre Group's movie 'If Gandhi' releases
The COVID-19 lockdowns have been a cause of theatres being shut down for a period, which was then considered to be indefinite. Performing artists around the globe had suffered a great setback during that period. It had somewhere, revolutionised the way, conventional theatre groups, including Silchar’s ‘Bhabikal Theatre Group’, function.
It was the energy among the artists and the director that made ‘Bhabikal Theatre Group’ work restlessly throughout the lockdown. Keeping in mind and giving its priority to the COVID-19 protocols, ‘Bhabikal Theatre Group’ continued to explore the possibilities of theatre during the lockdown. The group presented plays on Facebook Live, organised a Virtual Theatre Festival and as one of its “flagship trial”, produced a short film, “If Gandhi.”
The film, ‘If Gandhi’ by Bhabikal Theatre Group, released on Friday (March 5, 2021) on ‘my CinemaHall’. One can find the application on Google Playstore. The link to the application is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mycinemahall
Synopsis of the film
Society has gone deep down into a well of corruption, selfishness, ignorance and discrimination. Those who are in power can manipulate resources, and make money stay stagnant within a particular section of the society. On the contrary, those who are in need further fall in acute need.
Now imagine, what if Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, was alive today? The film, “If Gandhi” answers this question. However, Mahatma Gandhi’s values are evergreen. They are alive in each and every Indian. Can Mahatma Gandhi incarnate among us in the 21st century, almost after 7 decades, since he had reached the final abode?
