Thieves met with an accident while escaping with stolen cash box
Two miscreants were arrested by police on Saturday for reportedly trying to steal the cash box from a shop at Dullabcherra in Karimganj district. The miscreants, Nizam Uddin Laskar (36) and Baharul Islam Laskar (22), are the residents of Sayeedbond and Algapur in Hailakandi district.
Per reports, the duo along with another unidentified person went as customers to a stationery shop at Dullabcherra, around 68km from Silchar, this morning. There they found Raju Deb, son of the shop owner Rana Deb, and asked him for dal, potatoes and onions. Raju went to another shop to fetch the food items. Taking the advantage of his absence, the trio took the cash box and tried to escape.
Meanwhile, Raju returned and found that the cash box missing and the trio were inside an Alto car and were about to flee away. He rushed towards them and held one of them (who was in the driving seat), but the person managed to free himself and drove away.
However, they could not succeed to flee away as their car lost control on the way and rammed into the gate of a house. Locals, after hearing the commotion, rushed to the spot and nabbed Nizam and Baharul, while third person escaped, sources said.
Eventually, the agitated residents beat them black and blue and vandalised the car. Receiving the information of the incident, a team of Ratabari police station reached the spot and took the duo into custody. A probe has been initiated about the incident.
