
Shyamacharan Vidyapith becomes Champion of the Baidyanath Nath Inter-school Cricket; Runner-up Pranabananda Vidya Mandir
In the Baidyanath Nath Memorial U-15 Inter-school Cricket organized by the Silchar DSA, Shyamacharan Deb Vidyapith has emerged as the champions. In a thrilling match in the final of the competition on Friday, Shyamacharan Deb Vidyapith Pranabananda Vidya Mandir by 2 wickets. As a result, as the champions, Shyamacharan Deb Vidyapith got ten thousand rupees as the prize money along with the champion’s trophy. The runner-up Pranbananda Vidya Mandir got seven thousand rupees along with the runner-up trophy.
For the past one decade, the finals of the Baidyanath Nath Inter-school Cricket used to be played in colourful jerseys and with a white ball. But this time, that couldn’t be done due to a shortage of funds and sponsorship this year. As a result, the final match did not have that grandeur like other times. The atmosphere of the final match was kind of pale. However, the atmosphere was different in the 22 yards as the fight between bat and ball was quite intense.
Pranabananda Vidyamandir decided to bat first after winning the toss. They managed to score 101 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Bishal Das scored the maximum of 43 runs for the team whereas, Shiva Sinha scored 13. 16 runs came from the Extras. Suraj Das, Raunak Chatterjee and Suraj Paul took two wickets each. In reply, Vidyapeeth reached the target after losing 8 wickets in 18 overs. Deep Vaishnav (30), Sunny Singh (19), Abdul Tahir Laskar (12) and Anil Das (10) contributed significant runs to the board. 17 runs were scored from Extras. Shiva Sinha took three wickets and two by Biplob Sinha. Vidyapeeth’s Suraj Paul was adjudged as the Player of the Final match.
The third place in the tournament is won by the Government Boys HS School. New Oxford High School came fourth. Silchar Collegiate School managed to win the Fair Play Team award. Abdul Tahir Laskar of Vidyapeeth has been adjudged as the best batsman of the tournament, while the best bowler award went to Dinesh Prasad Nunia of New Oxford School. Biplob Sinha of Pranabananda Vidyamandir was adjudged as the Player of the Tournament.
