Science teacher, member of Rupam, Biswajit Kar drowns in Barak while immersing Maa Manasha idol

In a sad turn of events, a divine deed turned into a disastrous conclusion. Goddess Manasha  is worshipped all across in Barak Valley in houses as well as community pandals. 55-year-old science teacher and a popular figure in cultural activities Biswajit Kar fondly known as Bishnu, had also organised a puja at his house. After all the rituals were completed, he along with his nephew hired a hand cart (thela) to immerse the idol in Bisarjon ghat in Sadar ghat. But he never came back.

Bishnu along with his nephew and their cart puller reached the ghat at about 4 pm yesterday. Once there, he went into Barak to replace the ghot water. Unknowingly, he went too far into the depth. According to eye witnesses, Bishnu lost his balance and slipped. He started panicking which made people understand that he is calling for help. But no one dared to dive into the water.
The cart puller tried to throw a bamboo for him to hold for support but Bishnu was too far from the shore. Since then, he has been missing. On the other hand, as the news broke to his family members and friends in the fraternity, everyone rushed to the ghat. The NDRF was also informed and the jawans launched a search operation which is still on.
Biswajit Kar teaches science in Yasin Ali School located in Uttar Krishnopur area. He is a favourite among his students and an active member of Rupam various cultural organisation.,
