
BJP leader Piyali Choudhury passes away aged 38; Party members, locals mourn her death
The demise of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Mahila Morcha Cachar District Committee’s General Secretary and popular personality Piyali Choudhury has been mourned by everyone starting from her neighbours to the party workers at every level. According to her family sources, due to reasons unknown, she had caught herself on fire on Wednesday night. And due to that, 80 per cent of her body got severely burned. She was immediately rushed to the Silchar Medical College & Hospital where she was kept on ventilation for some time and treated with oxygen. After battling for life, she died on Thursday night. Her last rites were performed at the Silchar crematorium on Friday afternoon.
At her untimely demise, many important figures of this region have mourned and expressed their condolences including Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty. Expressing his feelings through social media, Dipayan Chakraborty wrote, “I am speechless, silent. Piyali is no more, I can’t really accept this death.” Besides, members of every level of the party have expressed their feelings regarding her demise through social media.
At the time of her death, she was merely 38 years old. She was very popular in this region known for her amicable behaviour use and work efficiency. However, the family members are still unable to say why she suddenly made this decision, what mental pain was causing her so much pain. Her husband Dhrubajyoti Choudhury is physically ill and her mother-in-law is quite old. And this tragedy has shattered them completely.
According to well-known sources, Piyali Choudhury grew up in the Subhash Nagar area. Her father is Dilip Chakraborty, who is a former bank employee. She studied at the Manmohan Girls’ School, later at the Guru Charan College.
She once contested in the Silchar Municipality election under the banner of the Bharatiya Janata Party. She has also worked as a dedicated member of the party for many years. In every election, she has proved herself as one of the most efficient leaders of the party’s women’s front.
At around 3 am on Wednesday, the family members suddenly noticed Piyali catching fire all over herself. In addition to her family members, the house also has a tenant family living next to them. Everyone tried hard to subside the fire and then when finally succeeded, she was taken to the Silchar Medical College & Hospital soon. The doctors at the hospital then said that most of the body was already burnt. She was first treated in the burn unit and then kept on ventilation with oxygen. Gradually one by one, the organs of the body started getting paralyzed and the level of oxygen decreased rapidly. Soon after that, she breathed her last early on Thursday.
The body was handed over to the family on Friday morning after due postmortem. Many people have visited their home and paid their last respects. The last rites of the body were performed at the Silchar crematorium this afternoon. Locales of the entire area as well as people close to her were shocked and saddened by this tragic end to a young soul.
