"BJP will break 1991's record," Rajdeep Roy; "The ones speaking against me will have to eat their statement," he adds

First former union minister Kabindra Purkayastha and then Silchar MLA Dilip Paul, both alleged MP, Rajdeep Roy of several wrongdoings. They went on to say that it is Rajdeep Roy who conspired to give away the ticket to a new face in Dipayan Chakraborty.

Dilip Paul said that syndicate ran from a “chamber in Bilpar” is unable to get a free run in Silchar and that is why he has been “cleaned-off.” Today, BJP’s nominated candidate Kaushik Rai went to the deputy commissioner’s office and submitted the nomination form to contest in the upcoming Assembly elections. Rajdeep Roy accompanied him.

While speaking with the journalists, Roy broke his silence. “If I am involved in a syndicate and unlawful activities, why aren’t Police complaints being filed against me,” he questioned. Adding, “Whatever Dilip (da) Paul said is an outburst of emotion. The party in the last six years backed him throughout. What he gave back to the party is something he must contemplate. Blaming me for not getting the ticket is unfair as I was just one of the 14 members in the committee,” Roy asserted.

Speaking more about Dilip Paul, he said, “When the time is right, party’s leadership will respond to the allegations brought forward by Dilip Paul.” Yesterday, at a press conference in Dilip Paul’s new election office, he said, “Rajdeep Roy, during the meeting where the candidates were shortlisted said that he wants one candidate of his choice and otherwise he will resign from the party, which is why the ticket has been given to Dipayan Chakraborty.”

The same was said by Kabindra Purkayastha too. “In 2011 also many things were said about me. In the 2014 by-elections, the party did not give me the ticket. With my work and efforts, I have proved my worth at the party. The ones who are speaking against me will have to eat their statement as they did in the past too,” asserted Rajdeep Roy.

When asked if Dilip Paul contesting the elections will hamper Dipayan Chakraborty’s chances in the upcoming elections, Roy said that party’s grassroots are too strong for one contestant to make a big difference.

About BJP’s chances in Barak Valley, Roy said, “In 1991, BJP got nine MLAs and two MPs elected from Barak Valley. This time, we will secure seats in double digits and break the record of 1991.
