Breaking: Karimganj Police detains forest official Sukhdev Shah accused of forging documents
Big breaking news coming in from the district headquarters of Karimganj as the Karimganj Police detained Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Sukhdev Shah, who stands accused of forging documents to secure his government position. This startling revelation has left the community stunned and raises questions about the integrity of public officials.
Sukhdev Shah, hailing from Palonghat, Silchar, and previously serving as the Forest Ranger in charge of Matijuri under Hailakandi Division, was promoted to the role of ACF in February 2021. This promotion was made against an existing vacancy, signifying the high regard and trust placed in him by the Government. He was attached to the DFO of Karimganj. He has been employed for more than 20 years.
The district’s Police action comes in response to a complaint received from the Government, prompting Partha Protim Das, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Karimganj, to order an investigation into the matter. As sources have revealed, the investigation yielded substantial evidence leading to Shah’s detention. Allegations point to the fact that Shah falsified documents to secure his government employment, as well as the benefits associated with it.
Locals in Karimganj Town were taken aback as they witnessed the police escorting Sukhdev Shah to the Police Station following his detainment.
When contacted for a comment, Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das chose not to respond, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. The district awaits further developments in this case, as the community comes to terms with the alleged misdeeds of a trusted public servant.
The implications of this incident raise broader questions about the background checks and verification processes for individuals in sensitive government positions, and it reinforces the importance of upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability within the public service. As the investigation unfolds, Karimganj and its citizens are left grappling with the shock of this unexpected scandal that has shaken the very foundations of trust in their local governance.
