Breaking news: AHSEC rules out re-examination; big relief for students
In Assam Higher Secondary Education Council’s working committee meeting today, the council decided against organising any re-examination. The working committee suggested Pradip Kalita to voluntarily retire from the post of Higher Secondary Examination Controller. As per sources Kalita has accepted the suggestion and decided to do as suggested.
The results will be declared on May 30, 2018 as planned earlier, AHSEC secretary Kamal Jyoti Gogoi informed BarakBulletin.com. In the meeting, the council decided that it would check every minute detail of all the students of Science Academy. The secretary told us, “We have cancelled our recognition from Science Academy, and they are no more associated with us. The students have been asked to find themselves a new school.” The council has also removed all 19 senior officials of examination organisation committee.
The working committee has decided to cancel three examination centres for allegedly “playing around with the norms”. The three centres are Abutani (Jonai), Gogamukh and one centre in Silchar. Finance Minister of the state Himanta Biswa Sharma few days back discussed a possible scrapping of top ten positioning in HS examination. The Council decided to rank students this year and from next year, they will discuss with various stakeholders and depending on the inputs will take a call.
“We have constituted three reformation committees today, which are examination reformation committee, administration reformation committee which will appoint a new examination controller and use new technologies to upgrade, and academic reformation committee which will correct errors in books and visit schools and institutions to monitor proceedings,” said Kamal Jyoti Gogoi. He added that in the meeting the committee discussed the budget for the next year too.
After initial reports of a possible question paper leak case of Class 12 science stream papers, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) had formed a panel to probe the matter. Retired district and session court judge B C Das was appointed as the head of the committee and three faculty members of Cotton University were roped in as subject experts.
The committee submitted its report on March 19, 2018 to AHSEC. In the report the committee mentioned that there are similarities between the Science Academy test papers and the actual examination question papers. Das led panel sensed ‘foul play’ and suggested immediate investigation through an investigative agency. The committee in its report advised AHSEC to conduct the examination again.
It all started with a news report from a regional broadcast channel. The report brought up the abnormal similarity between Science Academy ‘Test’ papers and the actual question papers. After that several youth organisations, student unions and other autonomous bodies got involved in the matter and started demanding for a probe.
