Breaking News: Two prisoners including Naz-murder case’s Hifzur escape from Silchar Central Jail

Two life sentenced prisoners named Hifzur Rahman and Deep Nunia escaped from Silchar Central Jail last night by tunneling under the wall of the jail. Hifzur Rahman’s house is in Bhanga, Karimganj while Deep Nunia is from Ghungoor, Silchar.

Hifzur Rahman was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Naz in Karimganj which shook the entire Barak Valley in 2011. Hifzur was later transferred to Silchar Central Jail a few months ago for security reasons after spending a long time in Karimganj jail. Deep Nunia was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2018 for murdering a woman in Meherpur, Silchar. Their escape from jail last night has caused sensation in entire Barak Valley. It has also raised questions on the security arrangements in Silchar Central Jail. There is a mystery about the role of the officials in charge of the prison.

After receiving news about the escape of the two prisoners, Cachar DC Rohan Kumar Jha and SP Numal Mahatta immediately went to Silchar Central Jail. They arrived at the jail and took stock of the entire incident.

Speaking to reporters SP Numal Mahatta said, “Police have launched an intensive investigation into the incident. Everything will be clear after the investigation. Both of the escaped prisoners were sentenced to life imprisonment.”
