Brutal Murder In Cachar’s Border Village
A brutal murder was reported from Nishchintapur village along the Bangladesh border in West Katigorah area of Cachar district, where the body of a man was found in a paddy field on Saturday morning (January 17).
The deceased has been identified as Jamrul Islam alias Sajai, son of a Katigorah local named Hani Mia. According to sources, Jamrul had returned from Meghalaya on Friday evening along with two other youths from the village—Islamuddin and Afzal. While the other two reached their homes, Jamrul did not return.
On Saturday morning, Hani Mia went out in search of his son and allegedly found his body lying in a paddy field a short distance from their house. Soon after, locals gathered at the spot and informed the police.
A team from Gumrah police outpost led by In-Charge Pranab Mili reached the area and recovered the body, which was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination. One youth, Islamuddin, who was reportedly with Jamrul on Friday night, has been detained for questioning.
Locals have alleged that the murder may be linked to drug-related activities. Police said further investigation is underway.
