BUKSS: Despite Sayan Biswas' brilliant bowling Agartala Press Club wins the exhibition match
The eighth edition of Barak Upatyaka Kreeda Sangbadik Sangstha (BUKSS) organised Jookto Media Cricket kicked off today at Silchar with an exhibition match between Agartala Press Club and BUKSS members.
BUKSS members batted first at the Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar but could not use the powerplay well. Barak Valley Sports Journalist organisation lost early wickets and failed to make a comeback. However, the innings ended well as Avijit Deb and Avijit Paul scored a few quick runs after Debashish Shome’s run a ball 12 run innings. Paul and Shome both scored 12 runs each and were the highest scorers. At the end of 15 overs BUKSS posed a target of 68 for the Agartala Press Club team.
BUKSS started their bowling with a dream spell as Sayan Biswas bowled a maiden wicket which was followed by Abhijit Dev with a one-run over. Sayan Biswas picked up two more wickets in his following two overs ending his sell with three for five runs. Avijit Dev partnered him well by blocking the other end, however, he did not get any wickets.
The early start brought in a sense of excitement among the audience present in the field who were kept well informed by the live commentary of Anirban Jyoti Gupta and Dr. Himabrata Das. The early excitement did not last long as the BUKSS fielders dropped two crucial catches in one over of Debashish Shome which took the match away.
Agartala Press Club’s Bapan Das scored an undefeated 40 and made the chase look like a cakewalk. In 11th over the game was all over.
The exhibition match was a curtain-raiser to the main event which starts tomorrow. Six teams will tussle it out among themselves to claim the Jookto Media Cricket championship. The semi-final matches will be played on February 8, 2020, the final is scheduled on February 9, 2020.
