Karimganj Police, under the leadership of SP Partha Protim Das, made a breakthrough in their fight against drug smuggling as they apprehended a Burmese citizen, Lalian Sanga from Mizoram.
During the operation, which was a result of valuable information obtained from an earlier arrest, the police discovered 200 boxes of soap containing illicit drugs in the Ishancherra area of Ramkrishna Nagar, Karimganj district. Maqbool Hussain, who was found in possession of the drugs, was swiftly taken into custody for further investigation.
Following Hussain’s interrogation, crucial details emerged regarding the drug smuggling trade. It was revealed that the heroin had been smuggled from the Zokhawthar area of Mizoram. Acting on this intelligence, the Karimganj Police promptly launched an operation in Champhai, Mizoram, leading to the arrest of Lalian Sanga.
Sanga, a notorious drug dealer, had been actively involved in smuggling drugs from Myanmar into Mizoram, where he would then sell them. Upon his arrest, the police confiscated a staggering amount of Rs 11.50 lakhs from his possession, further implicating him in the illegal drug trade.
Another Burmese national, Lalping Nagura, was also apprehended and is currently detained in Karimganj jail for his involvement in drug smuggling. The relentless efforts of the Karimganj Police demonstrate their commitment to combating the drug menace in the region.
