By opposing Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, Congress wants to assure safety of Jinnah's kin: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Minister of Finance, Education and PWD Himanta Biswa Sarma hurled a volley of attacks against the Congress party by openly calling out its national party president Rahul Gandhi for favouring Pakistan over India.

Former Congressman Himanta Biswa Sarma’s unsparing speech grabbed a lot of attention at the massive rally held here at Silchar’s Ramnagar Maidan this Friday. The rally saw lakhs of people turn up to listen to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing the gathering, Sarma said that India is a Hindu country. He said that the BJP wants to assure that Hindus live with pride and dignity in this country but the Congress party has always been against it.

“The Congress never wanted Hindus to live in peace. This country was chopped into several parts and Hindus of this country were forced to bear a share in the suffering with no fault of theirs”, he said.

He added by saying that the Congress has been opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 because it is only concerned about assuring the safety of Jinnah’s kin living within this country.

The leader further urged everyone to support PM Modi during the 2019 general elections. “Let us ensure that we win Silchar and South Karimganj seats in the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Let this be a gift to our beloved PM so that he may succeed in his quest of reviving Hindu pride and dignity”, Sarma asserted.

Sarma also took heavy potshots at Rahul Gandhi for making “baseless” corruption allegations on his government on the Rafale deal. “Rahul Gandhi is a Pakistan sympathizer who is scared that his favourite country (Pakistan) might be threatened if our armed forces are strengthened by acquiring these new jets. He and his family stands exposed”, Sarma alleged.

He also said that the grand old party is responsible for dividing the country and has been toying with the Hindu population by refusing them their right to be called Indian citizens. He said that simply by rejecting the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, they have revealed their ‘true colours’.

Himanta went on by saying that the Congress has played divisive politics by separating the state in the name of two different valleys (Brahmaputra and Barak Valley).

He said that the separation has reduced ever since BJP came in power in the state. He backed his claims by talking about the broadgauge conversion of railways in the valley as well as facilitating high speed express trains like the Rajdhani among others.
