
Cabinet approves Silchar Municipality Board's "Up-gradation" to Silchar Municipality Corporation; Assam Govt. to own 4700 bigha HPC land
Each month, the government of Assam will hold a cabinet meeting outside Dispur. The idea, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said is to ensure collective development.
“Each time we travel to a new place to attend a cabinet meeting, the ministers will inspect several ongoing projects under various schemes. The ministers will also visit beneficiaries of schemes, young achievers and other individuals. This is more of an outreach programme and not just a one-day meeting over lunch,” said Sarma after the meeting at Dhemaji. The next such cabinet meeting will be held in Bongaigaon in November and Haflong in December.
During the press briefing, Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Silchar Municipality Board will now become Silchar Municipality Corporation. Dibrugarh Municipality Board will also undergo a similar transformation. “It is an up-gradation of both the Municipal bodies,” said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The chief minister also informed that the Cabinet has approved the government’s decision to provide a Rs 570 crore relief package which will help in clearing dues of the employees. Apart from that, the Assam Government will also pay the liquidator and clear the pending electricity bills. “This is a Rs 700 crore package. As a return, the government of Assam will become the sole owner of the 4700 bigha land used by Cachar and Nagaon Paper Mill,” asserted Chief Minister.
He also made a series of announcements to including the establishment of an integrated DC office, a multipurpose sports complex and many roads to enhance the connectivity.
The chief minister reiterated that if 15 ministers visit a district to attend a cabinet meeting and spend three days inspecting various schemes, it will help the district’s collective development.
