Cabinet meeting in Silchar on May 31; Approves Rs 308.75 Cr relief for Paper Mill workers

In the meeting held today, the Cabinet approved to release Rs 308.75 crore as part of the Rs 700 crore relief package to the employees of Nagaon and Cachar Paper Mill. It has been more than 63 months since they have last got their salaries and other employee benefits.

The Cabinet noted that this release will “provide further support to the employees of the Paper Mills and is line with the commitment of the State Governments.”

In the same meeting, it was also decided that the next cabinet meeting outside State Capital will be held in Silchar. Minister Pijush Hazarika confirmed to Barak Bulletin that the meeting in Silchar will be held on May 31.

Speaking with Barak Bulletin, the deputy commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli said, “It will be an honour and privilege for Cachar to host the first Cabinet meeting of Barak Valley at Silchar. Series of steps have been taken in lieu of preparation and we are ready to host it. It will be a historical occasion. With the entire cabinet coming in, a lot of local issues can be examined and steps for further development can be taken.”
