Cachar Assistant Commissioner’s Vehicle Allegedly Rams Auto, Victim Claims Assault Inside DC Office In Silchar
A shocking incident of alleged drunk driving and assault has surfaced from Arkatipur along the Silchar–Imphal National Highway late on Tuesday night, with a passenger auto driver accusing an Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and three others of assaulting him inside the Cachar District Commissioner’s office.
According to the victim auto-driver, the incident occurred on Tuesday night (February 11) while his vehicle was parked near Arkatipur point as he had stepped out to buy groceries. “While my vehicle was parked near Arkatipur point at night for buying some groceries, a vehicle with a red plate came from the Lakhipur side at high speed, hit my auto and ran away,” he alleged.
The driver said he had recently purchased the auto by taking loans from his relatives and chased the vehicle along with another local to confront those inside. “I just recently purchased my auto, and to confront the driver, I, along with another local, started to chase the vehicle. Somehow, we managed to stop him near Rongpur Outpost,” he stated.
Outside Rongpur Outpost, police allegedly asked him whether he wanted to lodge a complaint. “But I refused as they assured me compensation for my damages,” he said. The driver further alleged that there were three persons inside the vehicle, one of whom identified himself as an ADC. “The driver spoke in Assamese and told us that his name was Hazarika. All of them were drunk,” the victim claimed.
He alleged that the officials pressured him to provide a written statement declaring that he would not file any complaint in the future. “They demanded that I give a statement saying that I would not file a complaint against them in the future. I asked them if they could record a video statement of me, but they said I would have to give a written statement from the advocate’s bar library document and took me to the DC Office,” he said.
The auto driver further alleged that inside the DC office premises, he was physically assaulted. “Inside the office, they beat me, alleging that I was a robber. All this happened right in front of a police officer from Rongpur Outpost,” he claimed.
He said he somehow managed to escape. “With the help of the police officer, he helped me to recover my vehicle from the DC office, took it to the Sadar Thana and took me to the Civil Hospital for medical,” he added.
The victim has stated that he will be filing an FIR against the accused officials and has demanded proper compensation for the damage to his newly purchased vehicle.
Barak Bulletin tried to reach out to the District Commissioner of Cachar, Ayush Garg, but he was unavailable for any response in this issue.
