Cachar BJP Organizes Massive Meeting in Silchar, Labels Minister Ashok Singhal-led Delimitation Committee as "Anti-Bengali"

The BJP convened a significant gathering at a hotel in Silchar to determine the future course of action regarding the issue of delimitation. Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy, BJP Cachar President Bimalendu Roy, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, and over 500 BJP workers participated in the meeting.

Journalists were denied access to the meeting hall, as the party stated that it was an internal gathering among stakeholders. Sources within the BJP present at the meeting expressed their disappointment with the delimitation proposal put forth by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The party’s leadership collectively criticized and questioned the process.

Some leaders went as far as to brand the delimitation committee, chaired by Minister Ashok Singhal, as anti-Bengali. “Why did the committee, led by Ashok Singhal, not include any Bengali representation, despite Assam having a Bengali population of 7.5 million and 6.4 million Bengali voters? More than 5 million Bengali voters in Assam supported the BJP, yet the interests of the Bengali population were disregarded in the proposed delimitation process,” stated Hemanga Shekar Das.

Das further added, “The current administration has forgotten the BJP’s roots in Assam. It was through the support of Hindu Bengalis that the BJP gained prominence in the state. We will organize a massive protest against the proposal to reserve the Silchar Lok Sabha seat and to unreserve the neighboring Karimganj seat.”

During the meeting, party workers and leaders echoed their sentiments regarding the actions of Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Rai. Many participants noted that Kaushik Rai was not representing the voice of Barak Valley and was working against Bengali sentiments in the region.

After the conclusion of the meeting, Rajdeep Roy was approached by press members for a reaction. The Silchar MP responded with “no comments” but chanted “Jai Shree Ram.”
