
Cachar College Celebrates Assam Science Day
Assam Science Day was observed at Cachar College on Thursday through a flag-hoisting ceremony organized by the Silchar branch of the Assam Science Society in collaboration with the college authorities. The day is celebrated every year on February 13 across the state to mark the foundation day of the Assam Science Society.
The flag was jointly hoisted by Cachar College Principal Dr Apratim Nag and Executive President of the Silchar branch of the Assam Science Society, Dr Mukul Kumar Baruah. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nag highlighted the significance of the day and said the organization has been working against superstition and blind beliefs since its inception. He encouraged students to actively associate with the society to promote scientific thinking in the community.
Dr Mukul Baruah elaborated on the journey of the Assam Science Society since 1953 and said it has emerged as one of India’s notable science-based organizations. The Silchar branch secretary, Dr Biswajit Debroy, stressed the need to motivate students to engage with the organization and contribute to the spread of scientific awareness.
Among those present were Vice-President Dr Nilam Basumatary, Joint Secretary Dr Swetasmitra Nath, Mr Mrinal Kanti Dey, Chemistry teacher of Narsing School, Silchar, and senior faculty members of Cachar College including Dr Parmita Das, Dr Kajen Basumatary, Dr Soma Acharya, Rupajili Byapi and Ankita Ghosh. The programme was conducted by Dr Biswajit Debroy and Treasurer Dr Gayatri Ghosh.
It was also informed that on February 28, the Society will organize a special science lecture program during which three individuals above 75 years of age who have made significant contributions to science will be felicitated. The organization is also planning special initiatives next year to mark its 75th anniversary.
