Cachar College: Exam Hall Turns Into Vlog, Principal Says Action Will Be Taken

Students appearing for a semester examination at Cachar College were expected to focus on their answer scripts and follow basic rules meant to ensure fair conduct. Instead, a section of examinees turned the exam hall into a casual space, recording a vlog-style video, waving at the camera and using mobile phones while others quietly wrote their papers.

A student of Cachar College has alleged that some examinees freely used mobile phones during a semester final examination, raising concerns about unfair practices and lack of invigilation. The student, who requested anonymity, shared a video showing several students acting casually on camera and even posing for the camera while others continued writing their papers.

The undated video shows students in Cachar College uniform appearing for an exam. The video itself was recorded and shared on social media by a student. Some students wave at the camera and one even shows an answer script to the lens. A short caption on the video reads, “teacher says no mobile phones during exam, le my friends”, a cheeky Gen-Z slang meaning they proudly disobey the invigilator. Several students appear to be smiling, talking and enjoying themselves while the rest of the class writes quietly. No invigilator is seen in the video.

The student who shared the footage with Barak Bulletin said, “We work so hard the whole semester, but some students come in the final exam with mobile phones and score marks easily. It breaks our confidence. There is no value for our hard work.”

The absence of an invigilator in the video raises questions about how phones were allowed inside the examination hall. Even if no cheating took place, the presence of mobile phones inside an exam hall violates standard examination rules and creates suspicion.

When contacted, Principal of Cachar College Dr Apratim Nag said he was unaware of the video and asked Barak Bulletin to send it to him. After viewing the footage, he said, “I have seen the video now. It is not clear when exactly it was recorded, but it should not have happened under any circumstance. We will try to identify the students involved and take appropriate action.”

He further added, “We will also instruct the invigilators to be more strict. This is a lapse on their part as well. The audacity of the students to record such a video and even share it on social media is beyond imagination. It is indeed unfair to those who studied hard, and we will look into the matter seriously.”

Cachar College has a long legacy, and this video tarnishes its reputation. This incident does not only put the spotlight on the students involved, but also raises serious questions about the academic legitimacy of the college itself. However, Principal Dr Nag has assured that he will look into the matter thoroughly and take steps to ensure fair practices.
