Cachar College organises a meeting regarding the upcoming NAAC visit; MP Rajdeep Roy assures Rs 10 lakhs for the upliftment of the college

Cachar College in Silchar is one of the oldest and prestigious colleges in the entire district of Cachar. The college has produced some big and successful personalities from Silchar in several fields over the decades. But even after 61 years of its existence, the institution is yet to get its UGC NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) accreditation. After years of hard work and struggle, finally, the college is all set to start preparing to host a team of NAAC representatives in the coming 3 months for the evaluation process.

To kickstart the preparation for the official NAAC visit for evaluation, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the Cachar College organized an event today at its college premises. Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy and MLA Dipayan Chakraborty joined as chief guests of the event. Besides, the Principal of the college Siddhartha Shankar Nath and others also attended the function. With the NCC department of the college in detail about their activities. Also, on behalf of the NCC department of the college, they explained their activities to the people in detail.

While speaking at the event, MP Rajdeep Roy said, “Cachar College has the legacy of producing many generations of students of this valley who are working at different capacities to assist the college now. Among them are Dipayan Chakraborty, the current MLA from Silchar, and Aminul Haque Laskar, the former Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, as well as the former MLA of Sonai. They have done a lot for the upliftment of the college. Now, Cachar College is fully prepared for the recognition of the NAAC. A special team will visit the college in the next three months and I believe they will give this college an improved ranking. After overcoming many problems of the past, today the college is moving forward with ease and we are by their side.”

He assured that a grant of Rs 10 lakh would be provided from the MPLAD fund for the development of the Cachar College. He said, “MPs across the country have allocated Rs 5 crore each annually from their own funds to the union government for two years to fight the Corona situation. As I’ve already paid Rs 10 crore to the Prime Minister’s Fund, I was not in a position to provide financial assistance for any other project. However, I will provide Rs 10 lakh for the development of the Cachar College and will also keep an eye on the fund to reach the college as soon as possible.” He also praised the NCC department of the college and said that in addition to education, when students get involved in NCC drills, it helps in contributing towards patriotism.

Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty said, “As an alumnus of this college, I am extremely proud to be associated with this college and now after becoming an MLA, I am concerned about the betterment of the college. I have faith in the assurance given by MP Rajdeep Roy, and I promise to work hard for the betterment of the college in my full capacity.”

Cachar College Principal Siddharth Shankar Nath said that MP Rajdeep Roy had assured two years back that he would help the college to gain recognition from the UGC’s National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). “He has kept his promise and today we are fully prepared to face the council for evaluation. Aminul Haque Laskar, a former student of the college, has also contributed to the development of the college by approving 5 lakh rupees in the past. Now, another alumnus of our college has become the MLA of Silchar. Having them by our side, we can carry forward the longstanding dream of improving the college. MP Rajdeep Roy has assured us that one day our college will be developed into a big institution like the Cotton College in Guwahati. And we are working towards that goal only”, said Principal Nath.
