Cachar College Student Bishali Choudhury Selected for CM’s Green Fellowship
Bishali Choudhury, a third-semester Honours student of the Department of Botany at Cachar College, has been nominated for the Chief Minister’s Green Fellowship Programme for the 2025–2026 academic year. Notably, she is the only student from Cachar district to receive this distinction in the current academic cycle.
The fellowship, an initiative of the Pollution Control Board of Assam under the Government of Assam, is designed to encourage environmental consciousness among undergraduate students in the higher education sector. The programme focuses on enabling students to identify and address real-world ecological challenges within their local contexts.
As part of the fellowship, selected candidates undergo two to three weeks of internship training at foreign universities or reputed research institutions based on their approved research proposals. After completing the training, fellows are expected to implement eco-friendly innovations in their home regions to mitigate environmental concerns.
Bishali earned her nomination with a project aimed at supporting vegetable farmers in Cachar district, addressing key issues such as pest infestation, microbial diseases, and soil quality improvement in vegetable-growing areas. The proposed solutions emphasise sustainable practices tailored to local agricultural conditions.
A resident of Itkhola, Silchar, Bishali is the daughter of Biswajit Choudhury and Debahuti Choudhury. Her achievement has been warmly welcomed by the Cachar College community, her family, and local residents.
She acknowledged the guidance of Dr. Biswajit Deb Roy, Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany, for mentoring her through the proposal development. Bishali also expressed gratitude to Principal Dr. Apratim Nag and Head of the Botany Department Dr. Mukul Kumar Baruah for their support.
Through the fellowship, Bishali will receive advanced training abroad to further refine and implement her project, with the aim of delivering practical, sustainable solutions for environmental and agricultural challenges in Cachar district.
