Cachar COVID update: 125 positive so far; 5 died in SMCH in last 24 hours, 15 critical
Cachar district health department informed that 125 individuals have tested positive so far in Cachar today. Out of them, 90 were tested using Rapid Antigen Test Kit. The administration has conducted 1063 tests today using the RAT kit.
It is worth mentioning here that at one point in time, the administration was conducting more than 3000 tests per day. However, several lab-technicians themselves got infected which derailed the rapid testing drive. Reportedly there is a shortage of kits too in Cachar.
Meanwhile, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that 76,980 samples have been tested by the microbiology department in SMCH. He added that in the last 24 hours 32 new patients have been admitted to the COVID ward in SMCH whereas 12 have left the hospital after recovering.
Shedding light on the situation at the COVID ward, Dr. Gupta said there are 256 patients admitted at this stage. “16 patients are in ICU, two under ventilator and. Currently, 15 patients are in critical condition.”
The vice-principal who is also the official spokesperson of SMCH informed five COVID positive patients have succumbed at the hospital in the last 24 hours. Out of them, three are from Cachar and one each from Karimganj and Hailakandi. This takes the total death of COVID patients to 75 whereas 24 have been declared as COVID death by the death audit board.
In the tensed scenario, the doctors at SM Dev Civil Hospital joined the patients to sing, ‘We shall overcome,” to boost morale.
