Cachar COVID update: 93 positive so far; 56-year-old Kanu Paul succumbs; death toll rises to 5 

Cachar district reported 93 COVID positive cases today so far. The district administration informed that there is a testing drive going on throughout the district and that is why the number is set to rise further.

Meanwhile, the death audit board has confirmed that 56-year-old Dholai resident Kanu Paul has succumbed to COVID19 infections. Dr. Prosenjit Ghosh, deputy superintendent of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that Kanu Paul “Was on the ventilator with maximum support from 29th July and his condition was critical throughout and breathed his last on 4th August at around 4 pm.”

Apart from COVID19 infection, Paul was suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension. “Paul is from the Dholai area and attended SMCH on 28.07.2020. He was shifted to COVID ICU on 29.7.2020,” added Dr. Ghosh. Apart from Paul, two others died with COVID19 infection in the body, but those deaths have been declared as non-COVID death by the audit board.

Till August 4, 2071 tested positive for COVID19 in Cachar and 1376 have been discharged. The district administration informed that there are 690 active cases in Cachar and the death toll has risen to five.

The administration has urged the people of the Cachar district to get themselves tested for the virus.
