Cachar Express Pritam Das creates history; becomes first player from Barak Valley to play more than 50 Vijay Hazare matches 

Pritam Das, a Ranji Star from Silchar has achieved a historical success. Pritam – who is known as Cachar Express – has become the first cricket player from the Cachar and entire Barak Valley to play 50 matches in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Pritam Das started his cricketing journey from Gully Cricket playing with tennis ball, now he is a regular player of senior state cricket team. By nature he is very shy and calm, but he has achieved the success due to his indomitable hardworking spirit. Pritam once again proved that there is no short cut for success. 

Pritam was born in a middle-class family residing at Tarapur in Silchar. He was twice the highest wicket taker of Vijay Hazare Trophy. First during 2012-13 season this right arm pace bowler took highest wickets. And again in 2019-2020 he picked the highest number of wickets in the tournament. He took 23 wickets playing nine games.

Pritam had made his debut in first class cricket in 2006-07. He played his first game in Ranji Trophy against Odisha. He took a fifer in that match. So far he has played 16 first class matches and bagged 29 wickets. He has a tremendous record in list A career. He took 91 wickets in 54 games with an average of 21. It is simply outstanding for a right arm pacer in subcontinent conditions. Pritam even scored a hat-trick in Vijay Hazare. Assam ensured its first victory of Vijay Hazare Trophy’s 2021 edition on Tuesday. Pritam had a significant contribution in that match. He took three wickets.

His bowling statistics in T20 cricket – he took 64 wickets in 57 matches with an economy rate just over 7, which is again an excellent record.

Pritam Das played his 50th match of his Vijay Hazare career this season against Goa. His performance was average this season, and he accepted it himself. “I didn’t perform well in this season, I am a senior player of the team, I should have performed better as a senior member,” said Pritam Das.

He played well in the match against Railway but in the other matches his performance was below his own expectations. He didn’t want to throw any excuse for the performances. He is focusing on his gaps and weaknesses and trying to overcome the bad patch.

Pritam Das is a familiar name in state cricket. Pritam fumbles the batters with his skills of controlling the pace, bounce and length. He is also very conscious about his fitness. It’s very challenging thing to hold a berth in state cricket team hailing from a small provincial town of Barak Valley. Prtiam has been able to secure and hold his place in the team. Judging his whole career with statistics would be unfair to his contributions. Pritam has proved that discipline and hard work can take you to success by overcoming all the obstacles.
