Cachar: Four Days Into Marriage, Husband’s Mysterious Death Raises Questions
The mysterious suicide of a newlywed husband in Katigorah, Cachar, has sparked widespread suspicion and intrigue. A 24-year-old youth, Tapas Das, from Sonagiri in Katigorah, allegedly died by suicide just four days after marrying a widow.
The couple had tied the knot in Silchar through court registry and, following the wedding, stayed at the groom’s maternal uncle’s house in Cheragi Bazar, Katigorah, instead of visiting his parental home.
According to reports, Tapas chose not to go to his own house after the marriage due to the controversy surrounding marrying a widow and instead moved in with his wife at his maternal uncle’s place. On Saturday (July 26) morning, his dead body was found hanging, triggering shock and speculation in the area.
Speaking to the media, his maternal uncle said he was unaware of any marital problems in their life. “This morning I woke up and found him dead. I don’t know what happened,” he said.
Police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem to Silchar Medical College & Hospital. Locals revealed that the woman’s previous husband had also reportedly died by suicide under similar circumstances. His sudden death has sparked many speculations in the locality.
