Cachar Man Missing After Panic Attack and Assault In Indigo Flight, Traced Travelling by Train
In a dramatic and emotional turn of events, Hasnul Haque Majumdar, a young man from Lathimara under Katigorah in Cachar district, who went missing after an incident on board an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Silchar via Kolkata, has now been found safe.
The incident occurred on Thursday, 31 July, at Mumbai airport. According to reports, Hasnul suffered a severe panic attack just before takeoff. While the cabin crew tried to calm him, a co-passenger allegedly became agitated and slapped him, worsening the situation. Both individuals were later offloaded at Kolkata and handed over to security officials.
Since then, Hasnul had gone missing, sparking worry among his family and widespread concern on social media. His wife had earlier demanded justice and criticised the lack of support provided to her husband. His father was seen in tears, fearing for his son’s safety.
Thankfully, relief came when a relative informed the media that Hasnul had been found at Barpeta Road Railway Station on Saturday afternoon. “At around 3 PM, we received news that he was coming to Silchar by train from Kolkata. We sent someone to Barpeta Road Station who found him there in a very weak condition. He was fed and is now on his way home. They are expected to reach by 12 or 1 AM tonight,” the relative said.
He expressed gratitude to people across the country who helped share information online. “We thank everyone who showed kindness. We found him only because of social media and people’s help,” he added.
The family has filed an FIR at Katigorah Police Station, demanding answers from IndiGo about the assault and why no family member was informed. They have also expressed the possibility of staging a protest if justice is not delivered. Social media has been flooded with messages of support for Hasnul and strong criticism of the assault on a vulnerable passenger.
As per sources, after the incident, both parties were made to settle the matter through mutual understanding at Kolkata airport. However, Hasnul missed his connecting flight and had no choice but to continue his journey by train.
