Cachar: On duty senior constable of 6 AP Battalion commits suicide, Investigations underway
A senior constable of 6 AP battalion named Biplab Chakraborty committed suicide by hanging himself in his quarter at the 6 AP battalion camp located in Kathal Road. The incident occured at around 5:30 pm on Friday and the reason for his extreme step is still unknown.
Chakraborty was on duty at the time of the incident.
The incident has left his colleagues in shock and grief. Investigations are underway to determine the cause behind Chakraborty’s suicide. His body will be sent for post mortem tommorow.
Speaking to our correspondent, Rajamarthandan N, the Commandant of the 6 AP battalion stationed at Kathal Road, said, “The constable was found in a hanging position in his quarter. It is an unfortunate incident. The name of the constable is Biplab Chakraborty and he happened to be a local from Cachar district. He was on duty when the incident occured.”
The Commandant added, “His body was found at around 5:30 pm in the evening. We have informed Cachar District SP about the matter and the Police will investigate the case as per law. The dead body has been recovered and the same will be sent for post-mortem tomorrow.”
The tragedy serves as a reminder of the mental health challenges faced by law enforcement personnel and the need for better support mechanisms to address these issues. Not long back, a constable had shot himself dead inside the Silchar Sadar Police Station with his own service pistol.
