Cachar Paper Mill employee succumbs to heart attack; colleagues blame nonpayment of salary

An employee of Cachar Paper Mill identified as Nooruddin Mazumdar reportedly suffered a major heart attack today while on duty. Resident of Uttar Kanchanpur was employed in the commercial department as a driver. A close associate of Nuruddin informed us that he was going through severe crisis due to non-payment of salary since last 18 months and was living a stressful life.

Following his death the Paper Mill employees gathered in the mill complex and started protesting. Till last received reports, Nooruddin’s body was kept in an Ambulance in front of the Admin Office and the union leaders were demonstrating, asking for answers. The union’s point is- the mill employees and their family members are in pathetic condition, and the government is ignoring the scenario.

The Paper Mill employees of Jagi Road Nogaon and Panchgram, Cachar has not received their salary since last 18 months. The employees were given several assurances by state and central Ministers but those assurances did not materialise on ground. In fact President Kovind too intervened in the matter, but no intervention seems to be enough to bring respite to the Mill employees and their family members.

Family members of Paper Mill Employees talking about mass suicide

All said and done it’s high time the authorities resolve this issue and offer some respite to this stressful employees. Few days back we had an instance of Nagaon employee Inamuddin trying to commit suicide by jumping from a telecom tower, today, on social media mill employees and their family members are even talking about mass-suicide… things can go much worse if immediate action is not taken by Government and other involved stakeholders.
